Sometimes new isn’t better.
It’s funny – but over my 16 year journey of exploring, making and consuming coffee, I’ve spent lord knows how much on the beans, on various equipment, machines, brewing methods, gadgets and paraphernalia.
But the most enjoyable, most pleasing and most effective way I’ve found to make myself a brilliant cup … an old cast iron hand grinder from c1895 from my dad’s coffee shop, and a simple ceramic Drip filter – a technique that hasn’t really changed since the 1970s.
Simplicity, well made tools and tried and tested methods all have their place. Don’t always chase the new. See how you can learn from craftspeople too.
