We want to…
planning wellbeing for freelancers doesn't require epic redesign
there are far too many things which get held up by good intentions.
i’ve lost count of the number of conversations i’ve had with teams who ‘want to look at how we can better support our freelancers’, but don’t actually do anything. often there’s going to be a ‘meeting’ and ‘we need to get some people from various teams involved’, and those meetings lead to uncovering systemic scale issues preventing freelancers being better supported - outdated payment processes, lack of clear accountability for onboarding, unclear legal position when it comes to IR35, etc. There’s always another issue which needs to be fixed first, or a larger scale programme is discussed which takes significant design and consideration and resource to implement - and then something else comes along. and the topic gets forgotten.
recently, i’m seeing more organisations turning to Leapers, interested in how they can partner with us, do more for their community, and again, looking at grand plans for making things better. my advice is always the same.
just get started.
it doesn’t take huge epic redesign of your internal process, how you work with freelancers, what your payment protocols are, what your talent databases look like.
